This morning at 11am the Ehf made the World Championship qualify draw to the
WCh in Egypt (from 1st to 15th juny 1999): the qualifications are necessary
to promote the six european teams that will reach at the WCh Russia, world champion
and already qualifyed, Spain, Sweden, Germany and Yiugoslavia, direct qualified
in Euro 98 (first five positions). Francesco Purromuto, president of the italian
handball federation Figh, Javier Garcia, Egypt spanish coach, Ralf Dejaco, Euro98
organizing comitee's president, and Günther Pfeistlinger, president of Aisp,
have drawn the teams sorted in six groups. Heads in every group were Hungary
(group 4), France (group 1), Croatia (group 5), Lithuania (group 6), Czech Republic
(group 2) and Italy (group 3), only the winner of each group will qualify to
WCh. The draw was guided by the swedish Staffan Holmqvist, president of Ehf,
by the austrian Michael Wiederer, Ehf general secretary, by the dutch Jan Tulik
of the Ehf technical commission and by the swiss Markus Glaser.
